Lot 21109 Exceptional 100 Lire 1883 ITALY. 100 Lire, 1883-R. NGC MS-63+. Fr-18; KM-22; Gig-3; Mont-03. Mintage of only 4,219 pieces. Tied for second finest certified and just half a grade point from being tied for finest. A fabulous example of this ever popular type and though not the finest graded it is hard to imagine a nicer example out there. Sharply struck and fully lustrous with flashy fields that exhibit proof-like qualities and sharply struck frosted devices showing the most minute of details with hints of orange tone hugging the devices. As a type it is sure to bring pride to its new owner's collection. Estimate: $15,000 - $20,000. NGC MS-63+. Click here for certification details from NGC.

Lot 21110 ITALY. 100 Lire, 1883-R. NGC MS-60. Fr-18; KM-22; Mont-3; Gig-3. Mintage of only 4,219 pieces. Here is an example where the designated grade does not necessarily reflect the quality. Though the technical grade is accurate due to light cabinet friction and handling marks the eye appeal more than makes up for the grade deficiencies. Well struck as would be expected being a product from the Rome mint. Good luster with lovely apricot tone throughout which deepens around the devices. Clearly an example that sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed and highly attractive as such. Estimate: $5,000 - $6,000. Provenance: Ex: Chaponniere Collection. NGC MS-60.
