Los 484 1909-S Lincoln Cent. V.D.B. MS-65 RD (PCGS). "Outstanding" is the first word that comes to mind when presented with this beautiful key-date Lincoln cent from the first year of the series. Satiny and somewhat matte-like surfaces display frosty golden-orange luster. A near-flawless Gem and a coin that holds up well to magnified scrutiny. Decidedly choice for the grade. PCGS# 2428. Los 3143 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red NGC. This is a sharp Gem example of
the key Lincoln cent issue, showing luminous surfaces and no
obvious carbon. The coloration is copper-orange rather than the
bright yellow-gold hue often seen on the 1909-S VDB cent. Eye
appeal is outstanding. Only 484,000 1909-S cents were struck with
Victor D. Brenner's initials on the lower reverse. The variety
without his initials was struck to the extent of more than 1.8
million coins.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Los 2001 1909 Lincoln Cent. V.D.B. MS-67 RD (PCGS). OGH. Splendid Superb Gem quality for this perennially popular fist year Lincoln cent issue. Both sides are highly lustrous with vivid reddish-orange color and a billowy satin texture. Expertly preserved, in fact virtually pristine, this delightful example would serve as a highlight in any type or date set. The entire mintage of 27,995,000 pieces for the circulation strike 1909 V.D.B. was achieved from June 10 through August 5, after which the Philadelphia Mint halted production on orders from Treasury Secretary Franklin MacVeagh due to controversy over the prominent placement of the designer's initials along the lower reverse border. Widely saved as a first year issue, the 1909 V.D.B. is plentiful in an absolute sense with high grade examples such as this particularly popular among today's quality conscious collectors. Provenance: From the ESM Collection. PCGS# 2425. NGC ID: 22AZ. Click here for certification details from PCGS.

Los 3156 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red PCGS. This first-year issue with the
designer's initials at the lower reverse was subject to widespread
fanfare and hoarding with the idea that the coins would be
confiscated. Gems are scarce but obtainable with Red surfaces, as
here. Definition is crisp on Lincoln's portrait, the wheat sheaves,
and the lettering on both sides. This lustrous key date shows a
handful of trivial ticks.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Los 16133 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. When the first
Lincoln cents were produced in San Francisco, in 1909, they showed
the initials of designer Victor D. Brenner along the lower reverse
border. This feature proved controversial, and the design was soon
changed, with the initials VDB removed. This is a well-struck and
nicely preserved Gem, with few surface flaws to distract the
beholder.

Los 3895 1914-D 1C MS65 Red NGC. Unlike a number of other key dates
in the Lincoln cent series, the 1914-D was not saved in quantity.
While first-year enthusiasm preserved numerous 1909-S VDB cents,
the 1931-S was anticipated as a low-mintage year, and the 1955
Doubled Die was tucked away as a curiosity even by
non-numismatists, the 1914-D quietly slipped into circulation, and
by the time collectors realized just how elusive examples were, the
vast majority of the issue was circulated to some degree.
By contrast, this vibrant Red Gem is a beautifully preserved
survivor. The slightly hazy surfaces are predominantly
copper-orange with elements of pale lilac and rose. Pleasingly
detailed and surprisingly mark-free. A touch of streakiness at the
lower reverse is of little concern. Census: 21 in 65 Red, 5 finer
(6/17).
