Los 5074 1914-D Lincoln Cent. MS-64 RB (PCGS). Desirable Choice Mint State quality for this scarce and conditionally challenged Lincoln cent issue. Lustrous with a softly frosted texture, the surfaces alternate between light (obverse) to medium (reverse) pinkish-orange mint color. Both sides are smartly impressed and crisp, a couple of faint carbon spots in the right obverse field the only blemishes of note. Although the 1909-S V.D.B. and 1931-S were produced in smaller numbers, the 1914-D is the rarest Lincoln cent issue (as opposed to variety or error) in Mint State. With a mintage of just 1.1 million pieces, the 1914-D seems to have slipped quietly into circulation, with most coins remaining there until worn out or lost. Relatively few Mint State examples have survived, and most extant seem to have survived purely as a matter of chance. Los 4029 1909 1C VDB PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. Ex: AU / Iridescent Raisinet. The scarcest matte proof Lincoln cent is the 1909 VDB issue. Most examples of this date are in the Red and Brown color category, but even these coins are notably scarce in Gem condition and rare finer. The present example is sharply struck and displays broad, squared rims with well-preserved, finely textured surfaces. Deep amber-red patina characterizes each side, leaving this coin just one shade to dark to qualify for full Red classification. A few microscopic pepper specks are not bothersome for the grade.
