sea-green Gem of the popular introductory San Francisco variety.

Lot 1216 Gorgeous Red Gem 1914-D Lincoln Cent First Auction Appearance 1914-D Lincoln Cent. MS-65 RD (PCGS). Lovely autumn orange surfaces are exceptionally lustrous in an example of the key date, conditionally challenging 1914-D Lincoln cent. Sharply struck and smooth, as well, this important coin would serve as a highlight in the finest specialized collection. Struck in Denver at a time when the novelty of the new Lincoln cent had long since worn off, few collectors intentionally saved the 1914-D in Mint State. Its mintage of just under 1.2 million pieces is the third lowest in the series behind just the 1909-S VDB and 1931-S issues, but its importance in Gem condition overshadows any date in the design type, especially at MS-63 or finer -- and "or finer" is only infrequently available to today's collectors for the 1914-D. The present Gem Lincoln has resided in the Providence 1951 Collection for 50+ years, and its debut in this sale will entice a new generalization of bidders to reach for the sky when the bidding begins for this beauty. PCGS# 2473. NGC ID: 22BH. Provenance: From the Providence 1951 Collection.

Lot 3296 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. The 1909-S VDB cent
has been many collectors' first exposure to the idea of a key-date
coin, and this Red and Brown Gem could be the fulfillment of
someone's lifelong dream. Considerable remaining red-aligned hues
on each side render the color designation accurate. PCGS has graded
just 36 finer Red and Brown examples (11/14).( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2427 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3308 1914-D 1C MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. The 1914-D cent had
a mintage more than twice that of its 1909-S VDB predecessor, but
it did not have the same publicity. As a result, while decent Mint
State 1909-S VDB cents are readily available for those with a few
thousand dollars, quality 1914-D cents in the same grades are much
harder to come by. This MS64 Red and Brown example is only slightly
mellowed with only one flyspeck of significance at 3 o'clock on the
obverse. Small cuts at Lincoln's forehead, left beard, and shoulder
contribute to the grade, but as the CAC sticker shows, the MS64 Red
and Brown assessment is fair. PCGS has certified just 48 examples
in numerically finer Red and Brown grades (11/14).( Registry values : N2998) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22BH , PCGS# 2472 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3311 1914-D 1C MS65+ Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Unlike the 1909-S
VDB cent, which was saved in quantity and indeed a target of
speculation on its debut, the 1914-D was largely neglected and
today is far more available in circulated grades than Mint State.
This is an uncommonly marvelous example, luminous with a mix of
pumpkin-orange, brick-red, violet, magenta, and mahogany hues on
each side, a classic Red and Brown appearance. The lines of the
wheat ears are sharp and the details of the portrait are
above-average. Add in a notable lack of marks and the overall eye
appeal is amazing. Population: 48 in 65 (1 in 65+) Red and Brown, 0
finer (11/14).( Registry values : N4719) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22BH , PCGS# 2472 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3134 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red and Brown PCGS Secure. CAC. This Red
and Brown Gem yields dominance to the former color, with only a few
wisps of pale burgundy toning intermixed throughout. The strike is
sharp and the frosty surfaces deliver warm, luminous luster. A
small speck near the S in TRUST appears to be the only sign of
carbon, though this is almost completely missed by a casual study
of the surfaces. PCGS has certified only 35 numerically finer coins
in the Red and Brown color category (10/14).( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2427 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3083 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red PCGS. The popularity of the S-VDB is
a constant in U.S. numismatics. Worth a premium as soon as they
were minted, considerable numbers were set aside in high grade.
Even so, the number of Gem Red examples is not enough to satisfy
collector demand for the one-year type. This piece shows natural
Mint Red color with just a touch of pale olive and a few flecks on
each side. Strongly defined throughout. A lovely Gem example of
this important early Lincoln cent.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3693 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. This shimmering key
date Gem is orange and fire-red with hints of lilac on the vest and
obverse field. Essentially bereft of abrasions. The strike is bold,
even on the important VDB initials, which sometimes come blurry due
to their placement near the rim. The initials were removed later in
1909, but reappeared on Lincoln's bust truncation in 1918.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2427 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 210 1909-S Lincoln Cent. V.D.B. MS-63 BN (NGC). Glossy copper brown surfaces are warmly and evenly toned over crisply impressed devices. Smooth and inviting, the surfaces have the "look" of an even higher Mint State grade. Arguably one of the most famous of all small cent issues, the 1909-S V.D.B. cent is eagerly sought in all grades from well-circulated Good-4 right on up through the Gem grade range. A pleasing MS-63 BN example such as this should be a viable consideration for your growing Lincoln cent cabinet. PCGS# 2426.

Lot 3503 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red PCGS. A 1909-S VDB cent is a "dream
coin" for many collectors, and as budgets increase, so too does the
amount of key-date possible for the money. This Red Gem has a
generally fresh yellow-reddish-orange appearance, though minor
spotting is visible at the margins. The surface texture has a touch
of satin.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 6240 1914-D 1C MS63 Red PCGS. Primarily light copper-orange with
a few patches of sage and scattered flyspecks. A minor streaky
pattern is visible in the right obverse field. Unlike the 1909-S
VDB cents which were saved at the time of release, the 1914-D cent
was more obscure in its time and far more prevalent circulated than
not.( Registry values : N2998) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22BH , PCGS# 2473 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 6237 1909 1C MS67 Red PCGS. A fantastic example of this
first-year issue, elusive as a Red Superb Gem but often
overshadowed by its VDB counterpart. Swirling luster dominates
subtly textured surfaces that showcase intense orange colors with
suggestions of rose. Boldly impressed and delightful in all
respects. Population: 68 in 67 (2 in 67+) Red, 0 finer (8/13).

Lot 1208 Indian Head Cents 1909-S. VDB. PCGS graded MS-65 Red. CAC Approved. Fully struck with blazing luster. An outstanding example for this coveted issue. This is without question a carefully preserved case in point of the first year Lincoln Cent with V.D.B., both sides comes alive with vivid, orange tinged luster. There are no vexing abrasions, and the absence of carbon is a major plus on this Gem. Sharply struck, and perfect for inclusion in a high grade set of Lincoln Cents. Only 484,000 were minted (PCGS # 2428) Victor David Brenner (born Viktoras Baranauskas; June 12, 1871 - April 5, 1924) was a Litvak-American sculptor, engraver, and medalist known primarily as the designer of the United States Lincoln Cent. Brenner was born in iauliai, Lithuania. His name at birth was Viktoras Baranauskas, but he changed the name to Victor David Brenner, because this made it easier to obtain American citizenship. He emigrated to the United States in 1890, living mostly in the New York City area. When Brenner arrived in America, he had little more to fall back upon except the trade taught him by his father -- gem and seal engraving. This technical preparation included the tools of the sculptor's craft. Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500
