Lot 3083 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red PCGS. The popularity of the S-VDB is
a constant in U.S. numismatics. Worth a premium as soon as they
were minted, considerable numbers were set aside in high grade.
Even so, the number of Gem Red examples is not enough to satisfy
collector demand for the one-year type. This piece shows natural
Mint Red color with just a touch of pale olive and a few flecks on
each side. Strongly defined throughout. A lovely Gem example of
this important early Lincoln cent.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3370 1909-S Lincoln Cent. V.D.B. MS-64 RB (PCGS). Satiny caramel luster dances across the serene surfaces on either side of this controversial first-year Lincoln. The motifs are boldly pronounced and majestically juxtapose the silky fields throughout. A truly beautiful near-Gem. PCGS# 2427. NGC ID: 22B2. Provenance: From the William Tabachnik Collection.

Lot 3693 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. This shimmering key
date Gem is orange and fire-red with hints of lilac on the vest and
obverse field. Essentially bereft of abrasions. The strike is bold,
even on the important VDB initials, which sometimes come blurry due
to their placement near the rim. The initials were removed later in
1909, but reappeared on Lincoln's bust truncation in 1918.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2427 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3503 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red PCGS. A 1909-S VDB cent is a "dream
coin" for many collectors, and as budgets increase, so too does the
amount of key-date possible for the money. This Red Gem has a
generally fresh yellow-reddish-orange appearance, though minor
spotting is visible at the margins. The surface texture has a touch
of satin.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 6237 1909 1C MS67 Red PCGS. A fantastic example of this
first-year issue, elusive as a Red Superb Gem but often
overshadowed by its VDB counterpart. Swirling luster dominates
subtly textured surfaces that showcase intense orange colors with
suggestions of rose. Boldly impressed and delightful in all
respects. Population: 68 in 67 (2 in 67+) Red, 0 finer (8/13).

Lot 6240 1914-D 1C MS63 Red PCGS. Primarily light copper-orange with
a few patches of sage and scattered flyspecks. A minor streaky
pattern is visible in the right obverse field. Unlike the 1909-S
VDB cents which were saved at the time of release, the 1914-D cent
was more obscure in its time and far more prevalent circulated than
not.( Registry values : N2998) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22BH , PCGS# 2473 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 1208 Indian Head Cents 1909-S. VDB. PCGS graded MS-65 Red. CAC Approved. Fully struck with blazing luster. An outstanding example for this coveted issue. This is without question a carefully preserved case in point of the first year Lincoln Cent with V.D.B., both sides comes alive with vivid, orange tinged luster. There are no vexing abrasions, and the absence of carbon is a major plus on this Gem. Sharply struck, and perfect for inclusion in a high grade set of Lincoln Cents. Only 484,000 were minted (PCGS # 2428) Victor David Brenner (born Viktoras Baranauskas; June 12, 1871 - April 5, 1924) was a Litvak-American sculptor, engraver, and medalist known primarily as the designer of the United States Lincoln Cent. Brenner was born in iauliai, Lithuania. His name at birth was Viktoras Baranauskas, but he changed the name to Victor David Brenner, because this made it easier to obtain American citizenship. He emigrated to the United States in 1890, living mostly in the New York City area. When Brenner arrived in America, he had little more to fall back upon except the trade taught him by his father -- gem and seal engraving. This technical preparation included the tools of the sculptor's craft. Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500

Lot 1232 Indian Head Cents 1914-D. PCGS graded MS-64 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. This key date specimen is mostly mint red. A frosty, satiny gem with strong luster and a bold strike throughout much of the reverse details, though some typical obverse weakness is seen at a portion of the beard along Lincoln's jaw and where the hair merges with the top of his ear. Later, and especially at the branch mints in the teens and twenties, a soft impact was left by the recoil of the likely worn dies that struck this denomination; but in almost all instances like the present one, the 1909-S V.D.B. is well made and the coin has a very convincing impression. Pop 219; 44 finer, 3 in 64+, 41 in 65. (PCGS # 2472) Historic Note: The 1914-D Lincoln Cent is a secondary key date of the series with a mintage of 1,193,000 coins. Although the coin can not claim the same high profile status of the 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent, it does present a hurdle for collectors of the series looking to acquire an attractive Mint State specimen. The largest part of the 1914-D Lincoln Cent production went into circulation, which makes high grade examples of the coin elusive. Lower grade examples are easily acquired at market prices, but problem-free coins even in lower grades can require some searching. Most examples, fortunately, deliver a sharp strike, unlike certain earlier Denver dates where the dies may have been overworked. The 1914-D will remain in strong demand as long as there are avid buyers, due to its status as a key date of one of the most widely collected series. Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,300

Lot 1242 1909-S VDB 1C MS66 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. After carefully
studying this Premium Gem, we believe that it should have received
the coveted Gold CAC sticker, rather than the present green oval.
The surfaces are flawless, the strike is exceptional, and the color
is amazing. Both sides of this frosty and highly lustrous Mint
State piece are essentially full Red. Only the slightest mellowing
of the orange mint luster is noted on the reverse. Population: 32

Lot 3222 1909-S VDB 1C MS65+ Red PCGS. This is one of the finer S-VDB
cents we have seen recently. The surfaces retain complete mint red,
but it should be pointed out that as with many S-VDBs the color
actually has a significant presence of yellow in the bronze alloy.
Each side is finely granular and the strike is bold throughout. The
only mentionable flaw is a faint dab of browning on the N in

Lot 3218 1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. This piece is
just barely over the line from Red on each side, with excellent
luster and no evident carbon, although a couple of dark-brown
flecks appear. The strike is well-executed although the VDB
initials are somewhat soft from die wear, a trait that appears on
numerous examples of the issue.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2427 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

An outstanding example of this widely admired issue which typically comes with moderate marks and sometimes uneven color. The fields gleam with residual mint red color.
