Lot 3178 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red PCGS. The S-VDB caused quite a
sensation when it was released because of the prominent location of
Victor Brenner's initials on the lower reverse. Rumors spread that
the coins would be recalled and many collectors and non-collectors
set aside examples. (This applies to the Philadelphia variant as
well.) This is a lovely example that exhibits rich mint red luster
with no apparent flaws.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3174 1909 VDB 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-1101, MS66 Red PCGS. Two
doubled die obverse varieties are listed in the
Cherrypickers' reference for the 1909 VDB Lincoln cent. Of
these, FS-1101 is by far the rarer in high grade. At least 70% of
the doubled die obverse coins reported at PCGS represent the more
common and less prominent FS-1102 variety. This desirable FS-1101
coin displays vibrant pumpkin-orange luster and sharp definition. A
spot below the O in ONE is among two or three microscopic reverse
flecks noted for accuracy. Die doubling is prominent on the date
and LIBERTY. Population (both doubled die obverse varieties
included): 30 in 66 (9 in 66+) Red, 7 finer (5/21). Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 37633 , Base PCGS# 82425 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper , 5% Silver

Lot 3177 1909-S 1C VDB MS64 Red PCGS. The S-VDB is a 20th century
issue that transcends Lincoln cent collecting. It is well known by
collectors of all U.S. coins and has been sought for decades as the
one really challenging early cent needed by all Lincoln collectors.
Full, unmellowed mint luster covers both sides of this attractive
near-Gem. The coin is only kept from an even higher grade by a
light speckling of carbon over each side.

Lot 3364 1914-D Cent, MS65 Red Seldom Encountered With Full Mint Luster 1914-D 1C MS65 Red PCGS. Ex: Connelly Collection. The 1914-D boasts an original mintage of only 1.19 million pieces, which plays a major part in its place among the elite Lincoln cent issues. Although the 1909-S V.D.B. and the 1931-S have even smaller productions, both issues were hoarded to some degree, while the 1914-D was not. Surviving Mint State examples, of which there are predictably few, tend to be more mellowed red rather than blazing red. This Gem example, however, has bright, even cherry-red color that glistens as the coin is rotated beneath a light. Well struck with no obvious abrasions and just the slightest flecks of carbon present. PCGS has graded just seven finer Red examples (11/20). Ex: Joshua and Ally Walsh (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 3083; The Jack Lee Estate (Heritage, 2/2009), lot 422; The Carter Family Collection (Heritage, 4/2010), lot 2029; Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2010), lot 3307. Lot 5041 1909-S Lincoln Cent. V.D.B. MS-64 RD (PCGS). CAC. OGH--First Generation. Vivid pinkish-rose surfaces are smooth, frosty and possessed of superior eye appeal even at the Choice Mint State grade level. Sharply, if not fully struck throughout and not all that far from Gem quality. An issue that needs no introduction among either Lincoln cent specialists or more casual collectors, the 1909-S V.D.B. has long been regarded as a key date entry in its series. It is the premier San Francisco Mint Lincoln cent, the only one with the designer's initial V.D.B. at the lower reverse border, and boasts a limited mintage of 484,000 coins. Worthy of the strongest bids, the present example is sure to catch the eye of astute collectors. Provenance: From the Monterrey Collection. PCGS# 2428. Click here for certification details from PCGS.

Lot 18050 1914-D 1C MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. A lovely satin example of
this Denver key, showing pumpkin-orange surfaces with pinkish
coppery tendencies. The strike is sharp, and only a few specks are
seen. The faintest trace of chestnut toning in the fields earns
this piece a Red and Brown designation from PCGS. The 1914-D is
significantly more elusive in Mint State than the more highly
heralded 1909-S VDB.

Lot 3025 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red PCGS. The 1909-S VDB Lincoln cent is
one of the most famous coins of the 20th century. Jeff Garrett and
Ron Guth include it in their 100 Greatest U.S. Coins, and it
is the key date the Lincoln cent series -- one of the most popular
series in all of American coinage. This Gem Red example displays
rich copper-orange color and a bold strike. Eye appeal is strong,
and only a few flecks are discernible with a loupe.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3033 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red PCGS. CAC. Copper and amber-gold
color covers each side of this softly frosted, CAC-approved,
first-year Lincoln cent. The design elements are well-struck,
including the often-incomplete designer's initials at the lower
reverse. The 1909-S VDB cent is the undisputed key to the series.
This is a lovely example. Housed in a green label holder.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lot 3134 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red PCGS. This is a sharp, satiny Red Gem
with original golden-orange luster and no obvious carbon spotting.
The 1909-S VDB cent is a coin that has captivated collectors for
more than a century. Decades ago, beginning collectors searched
their change diligently for an example of this rare date, most
often to no avail. Today, examples are generally available for a
price, but the allure of this issue -- one the 100 Greatest U.S.
Coins -- remains, unfaltering. This example will fit in well
with high-end Red coins in a PCGS Registry Set.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc
