Possibly struck in commemoration of the new czar's coronation, this massive gold issue features a fairly paltry mintage and stands as one of the RAREST piece from this reign. The noted scratches consist of a few very light marks running vertically up the neck and back of the head of Nicholas, while some faint hairlines in the fields--possibly the result of a very light cleaning--are also evident. Nevertheless, the piece remains virtually in the state in which it was manufactured at what was initially celebrated as a joyous occasion.
