Lote 3134 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red PCGS. This is a sharp, satiny Red Gem
with original golden-orange luster and no obvious carbon spotting.
The 1909-S VDB cent is a coin that has captivated collectors for
more than a century. Decades ago, beginning collectors searched
their change diligently for an example of this rare date, most
often to no avail. Today, examples are generally available for a
price, but the allure of this issue -- one the 100 Greatest U.S.
Coins -- remains, unfaltering. This example will fit in well
with high-end Red coins in a PCGS Registry Set.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lote 3216 1914-D 1C MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Unlike other
low-mintage Lincoln cent issues such as the 1909-S VDB and the
1931-S, the 1914-D was not saved consciously, and so the survival
of high-grade examples is a matter of chance. This rose, peach, and
violet example is more Red than Brown, well-defined with smooth
surfaces that show only a few stray flyspecks.

Lote 3026 Outstanding Superb Gem Proof 1914 Lincoln Cent 1914 Lincoln Cent. Proof-67 RB (PCGS). CAC. This wonderfully original specimen combines a vivid olive-orange obverse with a reverse that is more boldly toned in olive-brown, powder blue and pale pink. Original deep rose color remains on the latter side, the texture soft and satiny throughout. Fully struck, as well, with exceptional surface preservation and eye appeal that will please even the most discerning numismatist. After only the 1909 V.D.B., 1915 and 1916, the 1914 is the rarest Proof small cent issue of the 1909 to 1916 era. Survivors from a mintage of 1,365 Proofs are particularly elusive in grades above Proof-65 RB, as here. Sure to see spirited competition at auction. PCGS Population: 8; with a single Proof-67+ RB finer in this category. PCGS# 3319. NGC ID: 22KX. Click here for certification details from PCGS.

Lote 97 1909-S Lincoln Cent. V.D.B. MS-65 RD (PCGS). Splendid full Red Gem quality for this perennially popular low mintage small cent issue. Both sides exhibit dominant golden-orange color, the upper third of the obverse with a splash of warmer pinkish-rose tinting. Fully struck throughout with a smooth, softly frosted texture. The recorded mintage of the San Francisco Mint's initial contribution to the Lincoln cent series came in at a paltry 484,000 pieces. After these examples were produced coinage stopped when unfounded newspaper articles complained about the prominence of the designer's initials, V.D.B., along the lower reverse border. Accordingly, Treasury Department officials mandated their removal, and Lincoln cent coinage continued without the designer's initials until 1918, after Brenner's death, when they were quietly added to a less conspicuous place along the base of Lincoln's shoulder. Widely saved at the time by contemporary Americans looking for a keepsake of the new small cent, the 1909-S V.D.B. is more plentiful in Mint State than the limited mintage might imply. With the quality offered here this issue is scarce, however, and it enjoys particularly strong demand among discerning collectors. PCGS# 2428. NGC ID: 22B2. Lote 7039 1909-S Lincoln Cent. V.D.B. MS-65+ RB (PCGS). CAC. A thoroughly PQ example of this perennially popular small cent issue. Softly frosted surfaces are fully lustrous with plenty of original autumn-orange color remaining. Both sides are also lightly toned with splashes of pretty olive-brown iridescence scattered about. Fully struck, typical of the issue, yet with uncommonly well preserved surfaces that are knocking on the door of an even higher Gem Uncirculated grade. From a mintage of just 484,000 pieces, and of further significance as the only San Francisco Mint Lincoln cent issue with the designer's initials V.D.B. inscribed along the lower reverse border. Lote 3117 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. The important V.D.B.
initials are sharply brought up on this attractive, Red and Brown
Gem. Mint red color glows prominently throughout the lustrous,
minimally marked surfaces. Lincoln's shoulder is mark-free, while
the obverse strike complements the other well-struck elements. Any
carbon flecks require magnification to view, limited to a only a
few random, pinpoint specks on the overwhelmingly smooth and
attractive surfaces.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2427 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lote 4026 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Although it is
graded Red and Brown, this Gem 1909-S VDB cent displays mainly
copper-gold coloration. Only a few wisps of chestnut toning prevent
a full Red designation. A well-struck coin with vibrant luster and
only a few scattered pepper specks. Eye appeal is pleasing for the
grade. Housed in a green label holder with CAC
endorsement.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2427 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lote 3018 1909-S 1C VDB MS66 Red PCGS. Both collectors and the general
public took note of the tiny mintage for the 1909-S VDB as well as
the designer's initials that were quickly removed after the coin's
initial release. These two factors led to widespread accumulations
of the S-VDB. However, few pieces have survived the past 109 years
with the mint red intact and well-preserved enough to warrant the
MS66 grade. This is a bright, original example with the expected
yellow-cast to the original mint luster. Few post-strike
impairments are noted. Only 14 other pieces have been so graded by
PCGS (10/18).( Registry values : N2998) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2428 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc

Lote 3339 1909-S 1C VDB MS65 Red and Brown PCGS Secure. CAC. This is a
terrific example of the most famous date in the series. The
original and strongly struck surfaces exhibit an eye-appealing
blend of copper-orange and amber-brown color with occasional violet
accents that heighten the visual quality. Lincoln's portrait, the
legends and initials, and the wreath are razor-sharp. Void of
mentionable abrasions.( Registry values : N1793) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B2 , PCGS# 2427 ) Weight: 3.11 grams Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc
