In fact, this was one of the finest half-guineas in Dr Terner’s landmark collection: boldly struck on the portrait (only the shield has a small area of soft strike) with mirror-like surfaces (not mentioned by PCGS), gleaming with bright lustre. So fine it must have been saved at issue, perhaps as a memento of the birth of George II’s grandson in this year. £5500-6500
