Lote 31253 Vittorio Emmanuel III gold Prova 100 Lire 1936-R MS65 NGC, Rome mint, KM-Pr67, Pag-161, Luppino-PP120 (R4). A spectacular gold Pattern from the turbulent Fascist years leading up to World War II. We have never before offered the "Prova" version of this 100 Lire emission in one our sales, and only ten examples appear on the NGC and PCGS census reports, with the current offering occupying the highest known grade (tied with one other at PCGS). In terms of appearance, this selection leaves very little to be desired; matte-like golden-yellow surfaces show little evidence of contact and display a glossy luminance one would expect from a Gem Mint State coin. A few thin, superficial wisps on the reverse present the only thing resembling a distraction and likely precluded an even loftier Gem designation.
